Haisai! Okinawa game~
[T/N: As language barriers are a plot point, text that originally appeared in English is shown here in Orange, while text that originally appeared in Okinawan is shown here in Light Blue. On the first page, Michelle speaks with a bit of an Okinawan dialect separate from this. It should also be noted that the Okinawan language as originally presented is likely an approximation on the part of Himaruya, mixing the dialect and language from all the islands within Okinawa to create a hybrid dialect.]
While I was going through and cleaning up my idea notebook, my notes for an "Okinawan moe otome game" popped up, at the same time I thought of “The Abandoned House” and I feel I should refine my ideas a bit. “The heart of the Uchinanchuu” is the title for this post-WW2 Otome style game.
[T/N: "Uchinanchuu" is an Okinawan word for the Okinawan diaspora.]

Post-war Okinawa
Our 3rd generation Nikkei protagonist Michelle Kyan has come back to her father’s Okinawan roots with her hopeful parents. She only knows Okinawa through her father’s family stories. Not only is the culture very different, but she’s in an environment where she cannot communicate through the local language, and it looks like our protagonist is going to have quite a time...
[T/N: "Nikkei" is a term commonly used in Japan to describe people of Japanese ancestry who live abroad as citizens of other countries.]
The Protagonist
The Main Act
I came back to Okinawa with my mom and dad.
But why am I so alone in such a place?
It’s so horrible. We didn’t even discuss coming back to Japan before we did.
They didn’t even teach me any Japanese.
I had so many friends back home.
Like asking me if I can suddenly use chopsticks, or to take off my shoes inside the house.
Even the food has changed to potatoes and Japanese horseradish,
and weird Japanese foods I don’t get.
Even everyday life has changed...
Ugh, it’s so awful. I want to grow up fast.
When I grow up I’m going to go back to America by myself.
Every day is so difficult. I want to hurry back to America...
But how many days must I go through until I become an adult capable of going back to America...
Michelle: ".....I can't stand it anymore..."
Man: "Ah, it’s usual to find a visitor here..."
